Why am I running for Mayor of the City of Madison?
Good question. I’ve been participating in and writing about local government in the City of Madison for almost 25 years. Now, more than ever, we need to focus on the most basic needs (housing, food, transportation, water) in our community. We need bold, experienced leadership to guide our community through the many challenges we face as a result of state and national leadership failures to provide needed solutions. Local government needs to be welcoming of all voices and not just cater to monied interests. Not only welcoming but open to actually listening to people who are directly impacted by its actions and taking action based on that input. And above all, our government has to be transparent, understandable and accountable to the community. I’ve learned over the past 25 years that the strength of Madison is its people, and that when we work together, even where we disagree, we come up with better solutions. When elected mayor, I will work hard and fight passionately for our progressive values.
